New colors just arrived!
This season-spanning blend of pima cotton and baby alpaca has a fantastic drape for scarves, wraps, cardigans, and summer tops. The fiber blend and kettle-dyeing process by Manos del Uruguay give the colors a heathered, stonewashed look. Although labeled as a sport- to DK-weight yarn, Serena's gauge is very versatile, from 4 1/2 to 7 sts per inch. Try it for crochet, too!
By choosing this yarn, you're supporting a woman-owned cooperative that has been a member of the WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization) since 2009. Now that's something to feel good about!
Why we love Manos del Uruguay
Manos del Uruguay was founded to give Uruguay's rural women jobs that would mean not just an income, but also an opportunity to personally develop and gain independence, keeping their roots and traditions, close to their community and families.
Manos del Uruguay is a non-profit organization comprising 12 cooperatives — each one a workshop located in a small village of Uruguay’s countryside.
The artisans are the owners of the company; profits are shared among the cooperatives or re-invested in the organization. The cooperatives have strong bonds with the communities in which they work; Manos believes it's important to have a positive impact on society and families.
