Washington Gives! Join us and the Town of Washington on Monday, Jan 21, to honor Dr. King’s life, work, and spirit.

About Us

Stars Hollow Yarns was inspired by the community in the fictional town of Stars Hollow in the hit TV show Gilmore Girls. The best communities are made up of people with interesting stories...and just like in Stars Hollow, while they don't always agree, they always look out for each other. As the idea for this shop took hold and I started looking for yarn and products, a theme began to emerge. I was drawn to products with interesting stories, from businesses that cared for the world and the people in it...those were the products I wanted to share with my customers.

"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."

~ Anne Frank

So as you explore the shop, you'll find natural fibers with interesting stories...ranging from American-grown Merino, Targhee/Columbia, and Jacob sheep from local farms in Connecticut, New York, and Virginia...to fair trade Cashgora, spun by rural women in remote areas of Tajikistan and Afghanistan, helping them become financially independent. We bring you products that are created in a socially and environmentally responsible way, particularly when it empowers women and helps us understand each other a little better -- as when you learn the name and story of the woman from across the globe who spun the yarn you'll soon hold in your hands. We love sharing products from small, family-owned businesses that understand the importance of fair trade and encourage personal relationships among producers, buyers and customers. We avoid the use of chemicals whenever possible and make every effort to support businesses that honor humans and animals. We believe in karma.

Stars Hollow Yarns is a space to share our passion for natural fibers, sustainable and thoughtfully sourced supplies, and gifts for all generations of modern crafting enthusiasts. Nestled in the same quaint area of Connecticut that inspired Amy Sherman-Palladino to create the show, our primary focus is to create a strong sense of community, both in the store and online. Our classes are geared toward providing a fun atmosphere for makers at all skill levels, where they can expand their knowledge base and learn more about the health benefits of handcrafting while sharing a few laughs.

We love to share projects, find solutions, and discuss ideas about how lives and relationships can improve through knitting, crochet, and other handcrafts. Ultimately, we hope this will bring people together, strengthen our community, and encourage understanding and compassion among us. We invite you to join us on this journey.
