FAQ: What’s Happening at Stars Hollow Yarns?
📝 A personal note from Lisa, founder and owner of Stars Hollow Yarns since 2018:
Hi, friend—
If we haven’t met yet, or if you’ve only recently discovered the shop: welcome. I’m Lisa, the creator and heart behind our beloved Stars Hollow Yarns community. I’ve always believed in showing up honestly, especially in hard moments, so everything in this FAQ comes directly from me—with care, clarity, and love for the community we’ve built together.
💛 Lisa Clark

❓Why is the shop temporarily (suddenly) closed?
After some unexpected staffing changes, I made the decision to pause in-person shopping so I can take a breath, assess next steps, and get a clear view of what needs to be done behind the scenes.Â
This isn’t permanent. It’s just me stepping back for a moment so I can figure things out thoughtfully, instead of pushing forward in chaos.
❓Can I still place an order online?
Yes! Our online shop is still open, as a small way to offer continuity during this unexpected transition. I know that for many of you, yarn isn’t just yarn—it’s comfort, therapy, creativity, and connection. If shopping online brings you a little joy or helps you stay grounded in your craft, it’s there for you.
There’s no pressure to make a purchase—but I wanted to keep that part of the shop accessible, especially while in-person visits are on hold. 💛
❓I placed a preorder—will I still get it?
Yes. I’m personally reviewing every outstanding order and class reservation, to make sure nothing gets lost in the shuffle. If I have any questions about your order—or if I need to confirm details—I’ll reach out to you directly.Â
If you have a question about something you ordered, feel free to reply to your confirmation email or contact me here: lisa@starshollowyarns.com.
❓Are classes still happening?
Our spring schedule of classes has now wrapped up. As soon as we have a new schedule prepared, we'll let you know.
âť“ Will there be future updates?
Yes! If you'd like to be notified about what’s next, sign up for our newsletter here: https://www.starshollowyarns.com.
❓Can I still reach out if I have a question?
Absolutely. I may be a little slower to reply than usual, but I’m reading every message and doing my best to respond with care. Please allow a little extra time during this transition. If you’ve emailed or messaged me, thank you—I see you.
❓Will the shop reopen?
That’s the big question, isn’t it?
Right now, I’m focused on catching my breath, tying up loose ends, and listening—both to what the shop needs and what I need. I’m hopeful, but I also want to move forward with intention, not urgency.
When I have an update for you, I’ll share it first through the newsletter.
đź’¬ One last thing...
If you’ve been part of this community—whether for years or just a few weeks—thank you. Your presence, kindness, and creativity are why Stars Hollow Yarns exists in the first place.
If you'd like to stay connected, the best way is by subscribing to the newsletter (click here to sign up). And if you feel moved to offer help, encouragement, or just a kind word, I’m listening and so grateful. There’s no pressure or expectation—just a genuine appreciation for the people who make this space feel like home. For all of us.
Thanks again for being here.

Still here? Want to know the heart behind it all? Â đź’›
A lot of people know our shop is inspired by Gilmore Girls. What some don’t know is… it’s the reason I even moved here in the first place.
I was living and working in NYC with my (then new) husband when I spotted a little note on Realtor.com that said Gilmore Girls was based on an actual town called Washington, CT. My (very patient) husband agreed to drive up with me one weekend to check it out—we immediately fell in love and, despite not knowing a soul, decided to move up here.
What started as a weekend house turned into a whole new life. And when my mom passed away a few years later, I realized I didn’t want to keep working toward the life I wanted someday—I wanted to live it now. Life really is too short. So I left my job in the city, wrote a business plan, went to a handful of yarn/fiber trade shows, and soon opened the kind of shop that had saved me when I first arrived: a LYS where you could walk in, breathe deep, and feel instantly at home.
That’s how Stars Hollow Yarns was born. If you’ve ever needed a place where people know your name ("Norm!!!"), where you can show up with tangled yarn or a tangled heart and find someone who gets it... that’s the space I’ve tried to build. And I still believe in it—no matter what happens next.
🎥 So I thought I'd share a short video I recorded a few weeks ago at a yarn trade show. I wasn’t planning to do anything with it, but…well, life’s messy and timing’s never perfect. It’s unpolished and a bit noisy, but it’s real. Just like this shop has always been.
And if you’re wondering why we still have a physical shop in a world where you can buy yarn online at 3am in your pajamas, it’s because personally, I can’t buy yarn (or fabric, or jeans) without touching it first. So this place exists so you can fondle yarn freely too. (Preferably just the yarn. But hey—as long as you ask first.)

Hi Lisa, I m new to the community and was hoping to take one of your knitting classes. I completely understand when life tells you to take a step back and breathe for a time. I hope you reopen your shop at some point when you feel ready. Best wishes to you and enjoy your summer. Anne Halstead

Lisa, haven’t seen you for while, but please take the time to do whatever you need to get done. Your beautiful shop has been such a blessing to all of us up here; I pray that you are able to reopen in a way that is profitable to you and good for your business and your mental well-being. I’ve temporarily lost my knitting mojo, but when it comes back, I’ll return to knitting all the gorgeous yarns I’ve purchased from you. LB
