Road to China is a sport weight yarn that was born from the days of owning a mini mill back in Maine in the early days of The Fibre Co. Years of fibre exploration at the mill and hand blending raw fleeces led to the pursuit of the perfect blend of yarn that was all natural but not necessarily made up of wool fibres. The first version of this yarn contained Yak, Camel, Cashmere and Soy Silk. They've refined things a little since then, keeping with the idea of a deep softness, delicate drape and lustre to develop Road to China as it is best known today.
Today’s Road to China combines baby alpaca, silk and cashmere to give a fabric with a soft halo but enough definition to explore subtle textures and shifting patterns. To keep with the tone of gentle decadence Road to China brings, The Fibre Co. has developed a colour palette that is inspired by nature and dyed each skein to work in harmony with the raw fibres that go into the Road to China Blend. Combining the fawn of the baby alpaca with the butter colours of silk and soft tones of camel gives the perfect base for subtle duotones that peek through their saturated colours.
Road to China Light is the skein we reach for when we want to create something truly special. The 50g hanks are the perfect treat for dreary afternoons hidden away from the world for a few moments as we focus on our making. With plenty of body and soft, luxurious drape, this plump 3 ply skein will help you create items for your wardrobe that you can reach for whenever you want to wear something that makes you feel good. Work up something small and delicate in just one skein or treat yourself to the gift of a few precious skeins and see where these jewels take you.
