There’s just something about garter stitch that makes it the perfect choice for a classic baby cardigan - clean, simple, and easy to knit. This basic cardigan is worked back and forth in rows so that the only stitch you need to know is “knit”. The rippled ridges of garter stitch create a cozy texture without overwhelming the little person who will wear this piece. Seven buttonholes down the front can be worked on either the left of right placket, making this quick knit cardigan a great basic for either a boy or a girl. If you are making a gift and are not quite sure yet … choose a soft neutral color as shown here, and you can’t go wrong!
