A beautiful, meditative cowl designed by Candice English, owner and operator of The Farmer's Daughter Fibers. Two skeins of wool yarn (one solid, one self-striping marled) are knit in a mosaic pattern, with a cozy lining that we've reimagined this season in a luxurious new cashmere/silk blend from Lang Yarns (all the warmth, without the fuzz).
Do you get a little intimidated when you see a pattern calling for fingering weight yarn? Never fear...with this cozy cowl, you'll be slipping stitches on US5-6 / 3.75-4mm needles (no stranded colorwork), and the Spincycle yarn does most of the work.
Our kits include:
(Note: If you'd like to build your own kit, simply visit the links above for each individual yarn and place them in your shopping cart separately.)
The Assookinakkii Cowl is a Sisters United pattern, and all proceeds go directly to them. The pattern is not included in these kits and can be found here.
The Assookinakii Cowl was designed for those times in life when you need a healing and meditative knit to put your worries, dreams, or hopes into. Assookinakii (ass-s-oo-kin-uh-k-EE) means “healer” in the Blackfeet language. During times of unrest in my life I often lose my ‘knitting mojo’ and I need a straightforward yet intriguing project to get my creative energy back on track. Through knitting we mend what troubles our hearts.
Assookinakii is made up of a simple mosaic pattern, knit inside out. We used Soka’pii, a fingering weight bouncy Rambouillet and Spincycle Yarn’s Dyed In the Wool which gives so much life and excitement to this design. We used a no fuss technique to line the cowl with Oh Dang!, an incredibly soft Silk and Suri Alpaca Blend. However, you can leave this out if you do not need the extra warmth.
