Spincycle Yarns ... also known as Kate & Rachel ... began this business as a handspinnery back in 2004, the two of them kettle dyeing & spinning all of their yarn in small batches & selling at their local farmers’ market. • They now dye, spin, design, package & ship everything from their little warehouse on Queen Street. • They employ 20 female & non-binary folks who crank your yarn out seven days a week! •
All Spincycle yarns are dyed in the wool, a slow but oh-so-worth-it kettle dyeing process resulting in long color changes & unpredictable transitions through the skein. • Every skein is like a snowflake! One-of-a-kind. • Folks who have worked with Spincycle before know that, although we do our darnedest to photograph our yarns in real light, every skein is unique (we can't say that enough!) & therefore probably won't look exactly, precisely like the ones in the photos. • Think of the colorways as moods. Pick yours & watch the layers unfold. •
All of their wool is grown, processed, dyed & spun in the USA. • Their superwashed wool blend consists of Rambouillet, Targhee & Merino breeds, raised primarily in South Dakota and Wyoming. • The sheep that supply Spincycle wool are 100% non-mulesed. •
A note about color variation...
If you have specific color preferences, please leave a note in the box at checkout. If you are ordering multiple skeins of the same color, we will hand pick skeins that match each other as best as possible. We recommend buying the entire yardage requirement for your project in the same transaction for color continuity.
You will receive a skein from this colorway, but not the exact skein pictured. Due to The Spinsters' “dyed in the wool” process, each skein from Spincycle is unique, even within a dyelot. The proportions and intensities of colors may vary. For more information about the Spincycle dye process, check out their FAQ here.
For high contrast colorwork, steam blocking is recommended in order to avoid color transfer. If you plan to combine a hand dyed yarn — especially a very saturated colorway — with a lighter yarn, we suggest you test your darker skeins for possible color transfer by soaking them first. To wash your knitwear, we recommend a quick cold water dip with a no-rinse wool wash.

A note from The Spinsters regarding yarn prices: "We have a staff of twenty highly trained female and non-binary folks making your yarn. They have each undertaken a huge amount of on-the-job training to learn to mill yarn and to maintain and fix machinery. It is really important to us that working at Spincycle Yarns be a viable career for everyone who works here, so we provide healthcare, retirement benefits, livable wages, sick and holiday pay, profit sharing, and a safe and clean work environment. When you purchase Spincycle Yarns, you make all of this possible. Thank you!"
