Sno was created in 2015, a unique fine merino from Patagonia. Ovis 21 Ultimate Merino® is the product of an organization dedicated to the regeneration of grasslands and increasing the profitability of farms in the Patagonian region of Argentina. The end result is a lustrous fine merino that feels like cashmere. Ultimate Merino’s unique cylindrical structure and long flat scales allow the lustrous fiber to accept dyes with exceptional permanence and depth of color.
Sno is the same as Woolfolk’s classic Tynd but in a sophisticated marled palette. This fingering weight yarn has a nice, tight twist that creates a lightweight, elegant fabric, just right for three-season sweaters, wraps, baby garments and hats!
Why we love Woolfolk
Woolfolk yarns combine the highest quality wool with ethical, sustainable practices. The fiber they use, Ultimate Merino®, doesn’t happen by chance, but by the innovative efforts of farmers to produce the very best wool fiber while being land stewards of the Patagonian Grasslands. Woolfolk brings this exquisitely soft and lustrous fiber in handknitting yarns that preserves the unique attributes of this luxurious wool.
The presence of coarse fibers in wool create “prickle” — the main obstacle to wearing and working with wool. Most wool products have a high percentage of over 30 microns - the diameter measure of a strand of fiber. Ultimate Merino® has a micron count of 17.5, and combines the hand of cashmere with the wear of merino. The long cylindrical fibers, with a surface that is smoother due to elongated, flat scales, reflect light and absorb dye better than elliptical fibers, resulting in lustrous yarns with deep and lasting hues.
